BAW reunion 2018

a few weekends ago two of my best, life long friends came to spend a weekend with us in RVA.  we try to have a reunion every year, with every other year being a mom/kid trip and then every other year being a grown up only trip.  we thought about it and realized we have had some sort of reunion every year going back more than 10 years.  its pretty impressive for a group of friends who have lived in multiple states and countries and have had weddings and babies non stop.  this year each of them brought one kid, so we had 5 total with us, of the 10 total between us.

(here, here, and here are a few of the more recent reunions)

we spent saturday morning at our favorite farmers' market. we pretty much never get produce when we go, even though they have loads of it.  we did, however, sample any and everything that was offered, bought donuts, drank coffee, and got faces painted.
this time around there were two new babies in the mix so we all enjoyed passing the newest BAW members around.  and, per usual, we hardly slept at all.  the first night we had to cut ourselves off at 3 am, knowing that the kids would wake up early regardless of how late we stayed up.
it was so wonderful to show my friends my city.  its such a great feeling to introduce people you love to places you love.  and im sure there are many beautiful cities in america, but man richmond has got to be at the top of the list.  we walked and walked on saturday, first through the market and then back and forth across the river.  by the time we were in for the evening we were all exhausted.  we made hand sushi for dinner, one of my very favorite meals to make when we have people at our table with whom we want to linger.
with life as busy at it is, and as chaotic as it is, and as expensive as it is, i am amazed over and over at the consistency of our visits with each other.  and im even more amazed that we have remained as close as we have for as long as we have, through the vast amount of life change we have experienced.  kristina and i became friends when we were 5 and met julie not long after.   and how our kids are that age.  it truly is incredible.
we are already scheming about next years' grown ups only trip, and im bracing for the lack of sleep and overload of absurdities that will be sure to mark our next BAW reunion.
