Eden Isimbi is SEVEN

its the end of the day and i have not had a moment to get over here and write about eden's seventh birthday.  the entire day has been full to the brim of phone calls, facetimes, and visits from friends and family.  even during this season, this covid chaos, so many friends came through our doors or lingered on our porch just to make sure that eden felt loved and celebrated.  and she most certainly did.

one of the things i am the most thankful for when i think of eden is for the community of friends she has around her, and the community of their parents that i have around me.  we are so unbelievable blessed by good company.

eden is in second grade as of last week, and tells me confidently that she is 'a math girl'.  she still loves harry potter and believes its all 100% real.  its like her version of santa clause.  and i am sure that she will believe right up to the time she turns eleven and does not receive and owl with a letter inviting her to be on platform 9 3/4.

eden also loves the hobbit, and pretty much anything else i will read her.  she laughs out loud at shakespeare, wants me to read poe poems on repeat, and speaks in a british accent almost any time she is imagining.  she is becoming more and more confident reading and has a good kinyarwanda accent (better than french that's for sure).

she is a great sister.  she is also an overbearing sister.  but she is learning, and she truly wants to do what is good and right in regards to the other two girls.  i feel overwhelming pride when i see her step in and relieve etta's anxiety about something or when she slides in seamlessly to assist ivy when my hands are covered in raw meat.  i want to be her friend when she grows up.  i hope i will be.

eden loves riding her bike, runs faster than lots of the boys, and wants to talk to every human who passes our house or delivers a package.  she shouts greetings at any neighbor who pokes his or her heads out of doors.  she has an unquenchable lust for life and an insurmountable amount of energy and joy.

im so thankful that i have had her in my life for seven years, more than that really when i think of the months i sang to her (puked because of her) and waited to meet her.

happy birthday darling.
