Still Have A High Five

I write this High Five as proof that, even in the shadow of the darkest losses, there are still things to be grateful for.  As many of you know, I had a miscarriage this week, which I wrote about here, and it has been a really hard week.  Last week at this time, I was full of excitement for a trip, friends, and laughter.  Even though things did not go the way I planned, I can still look back at this week and see at least five things that are worth a second glance and a thankful heart.

Thanks for giving me the chance to reflect Lauren.

1.  I spent a weekend with one of my favorite people on planet Earth.  I have known Kristina since I was six, and when you go through something like I did this week, you want to be around the person who has known you forever, does not care how you look, what you say, or how you act.
She does not care that you still owe her 50 cents for the pop she bought you in third grade.  She just loves you.  And you love her too.

2. I also had coffee and breakfast with Becky, friend of my soul and understander of my heart.  She prayed with me in a mighty way and took my hand as I began my journey of loss.  Thank you God for Becky.

3.  I got to meet Cohen, Kristina's son, and let me tell you...he is absurdly cute.  Smiles and giggles and rolls of baby chub.  I could not get enough.

4.  I was knocked off my feet this week by the love and support that my friends and family have shown me.  Thank you for your prayers, comments, messages and love.  Thank you for loving my baby.  And thank you for not letting me feel lonely.

5.  I got to spend election night with some of my favorites, the Radabaughs.  Blank maps and colored pencils and anticipation.  Even though it did not go my way, I loved watching with the only kids I know who understand the Electoral College.

If you are still breathing, you have five things to be thankful for this week.  If you can't see them at first glance, look a little harder.  They are there.

  3. What a beautiful post. I'm so sorry about your loss. But your attitude and your ability to look around and see so much to be grateful for is absolutely inspiring. Best of luck to you. <3
