Death in His grave

Spring Greetings friends.
And when I say 'spring greetings' I mean 'greetings from RVA where it snowed today...

As many of you know we are currently in the Lenten Season.  This is the 40 day period before Easter where Christ's people prepare their hearts for the remembrance of the death and resurrection of our Lord.  It begins on the Wednesday after Fat Tuesday (which has now become a horrid excuse for gluttony and deprave celebrations), and ends on Easter Day.

Our church has done a very purposeful job of preparing for Easter.  For one, we are partnering to memorize the book of Philippians.  We have been working on this for weeks and should be able to recite the entire book by Easter morning.  This has been fantastic for me because I spend my free time cramming scripture into my mind instead of mediating on idle and useless thoughts or information.

We have also been learning new songs through corporate worship that deal with the death and resurrection of the Lord.  One of those songs is called Death in His Grave.  We sang it this morning and I was reminded again of the phenomenal sacrifice Christ made on our behalf.

the Chorus goes as follows...

On Friday a Thief
On Sunday a King
Laid down in Grief
But awoke with the keys
To Hell on that day
The first-born of the slain
The Man Jesus Christ
Laid death in His grave

And the bridge..

He defeated
Hell and seated
Us above the fall
In desperate places
He paid our wages
One time once and for all

I don't have anything profound to say that has not already been said before.  I just want to encourage all of you to remember that we all were dead in our sins, dry bones with no matter to hold us together, and Christ changed all of that.   You did not deserve that, and neither did I.
The one man who did not deserve death and separation from God took it instead.

Meditate on that my dear friends

  1. I will meditate indeed! Memorizing Philippians is a lofty goal and I love the thought of cramming scripture into your head instead of the mindless, trivial, world endorsed garbage radiating from all forms of media. Oh that my Savior would strengthen me and keep me moment by moment to pursue the renewing of my mind in such a way...God abundantly bless you! Tell Robert I said hi :-D
