Clearly Seen

“From the time the world was created, people have seen the earth and sky and all that God made. They can clearly see his invisible qualities--his eternal power and divine nature.
So they have no excuse whatsoever for not knowing God.”
Romans 1:20

Nature has always spoken to me very intimately about God.  And while all of God’s creation is beautiful, there are a few certain aspects of creation that speak the most significantly to me.   When I observe these, I can hear God telling me who He is and how He works.

Number one: The Big Dipper.
All of the stars are marvelous, and the fact that God knows them by the names He gave them astounds me.  But when it comes to the Dipper, I just always think to myself “Hey, it’s a giant spoon in the sky, how could there not be a creator?”  The big dipper shows me that God’s presence is obvious, and that we are blind if we can’t see it or if we attribute it to 'chance'

Number two: Waves.
Waves have been so important in my life.  I have sat by many different bodies of water and marveled at how the waves just keep coming.  As a child at Virginia and Carolina beaches, growing up on the Sound in Gig Harbor, visiting the stunning beaches of Honduras, The Dominican Republic, Mexico and South Africa.  The list goes on.  And every time I watch the waves I think to myself “That is how God is, consistent and reliable.”  And it blesses my heart.

Number three: Impalage n’Agasumbashamba
(zebras and giraffes)
Ok ok, I know its sooo ‘the girl who lived in Africa’ to say these ones, but seriously, if ANYTHING shows God’s creative power, its these.  I mean a horse with black and white stripes, are you kidding me?  And the giraffe is just out of control cool, no matter how many times I am within a stones throw of them; I can never get over how amazing they are.

Number four: Moutains
This one should be obvious, for any of you who know where I grew up.  Seeing Mt. Rainer was a part of daily life and, though I lived in that house for ten years, The Mountain never got old.  I never ceased to be amazed by how majestic it is, and how majestic God is for having created it.  The sun streams over it every morning (except when it is 'overcast', which is kinda alot in WA) and it shows me  how God's Mercies are new every morning.

And last but not least

Number five: Spring
I was born on the first day of Spring, so this one has always been very special to me.  Spring is just phenomenal.  It is God’s writing of the story of redemption in plain view for us all to see.  Our hearts  are dead, frozen ground.  Nothing can grow, nothing can flourish, nothing can live.  And then, like the first rays of Spring sunshine, God’s grace floods in and seeds begin to take root in our hearts.  God warms and softens the soil and breaths life into what was once dead.  And before you know it; fruit, blossoms and beauty.  Some of it comes up slowly, having to really push through what was once hard ground, but it still comes.  The flowers still bloom, and life still emerges.  God could not have painted the story of salvation on the canvas of creation any more clearly.  Spring takes my breath away and reminds me of God’s intense redemptive power.

These are just a few of the many ways that God’s creation speaks directly to my heart.  I challenge you to ask God to show you Himself through His amazing creation.
