ivy ann is two months old and things have changed alot in the last month. the first month was a blur of digestive issues and sleepless nights and large amounts of fussing. thankfully this second month has been a gradual decrease in the fussing and tummy problems and in increase in contentedness and sleep. she goes down very easily now, puts herself to sleep, and wakes up ready to eat a good full feeding.
oh and smiles, the smiles have arrived. i still have to work pretty hard to procure one, but she will give them out on a good day. and oh what a reward for my efforts.
even though i spent so many nights up with ivy her first month, i don't regret them or wish it had been different. in the moment i was sure i would never feel remotely rested again. but now i see that, as a third child, so much alone time, just her and me, was a gift. i remember those nights with fondness now. she needed me, and i got to be there for her in a way that no one else could be. and now she only needs one quick feed sometime between 3 and 4 am. and i almost miss the up all nights. almost.
ivy ann is on a pretty predictable routine, which is so wonderful and life giving. some people find a routine stifling; having to be home for naps at a certain time or having to keep every day basically the same. but we function really well on routine over here. and when ivy has slept well and eaten well she is very content. and her routine works well with home school so that we can get our lessons done while she is napping. she also naps her afternoon nap at the same time as etta and eden's quiet time. which means that, unless something goes wrong, i have two hours TO MYSELF every day. (and all the mamas said amen).
she is growing so fast. shes been in 3 month clothes for a few weeks now and even wears some 3-6 month sleepers, mostly because she is so long. in the 90th% for height the last time we checked, so she clearly got daddy's long legs. and she has these really dough cheeks. i have not experienced this with either of the other girls. you can literally burry your face in a single cheek, and imagine its pastry just about to be cooked. delumptious right?
the girls only love her more and more each day. and we are loving watching the teeny tiny bits of her personality come out.
